Merging Track from Kinomap, Laps from Garmin, and distance, pace elevation from RunCline

Post by GotoesUser »

Attached are three files from today's TM virtual run:

1. Garmin 935 file (5842253296).
2. RunCline file 20201119
3. Kinomap file

Stryd footpod is used to measure the distance recorded in all three files, but there is always slight difference in the distances for some reason.
Garmin has the laps recorded by using the Garmin workout feture.
RunCline has the actual incline used in the Treadmill. It also has the correct Power adjusted for the incline.
Kinomap has the virtual GPS track.

Ideally, I would like to merge the data from the three files:
1. Take distance, pace, elevation, cadence and HR from RunCline.
2. Take laps from Garmin.
3. Take GPS position from Kinomap (This is nice to have, but not essential).

I have tried this, but it has not worked for me, as I have indicated in earlier messages.
Would greatly appreciate if you can try this and let me know how to achieve this. I will be happy with just 1+2. But 1+2+3 would be even better.

I think I may have figured out how to make this work for you. Strava is being a little picky about the contents of the TCX file, I see!

I have included a screen shot of all the settings I selected to achieve your goal.

Step 1: Set up the crop:
Strava seems to be picky about track points that are missing a bit of information. For example, if you have an empty point without a position stramp, this can mess everything up! So, I trimmed the start and stop time to match the SHORTEST activity time stamp. So, I checked the “Check to Edit” box on Start / End time and set all of the tracks to start at the latest start time, which was “Nov 18, 2020 21:18:41”. Next, I set the end time to the earliest end time, which was “Nov 18, 2020 22:17:47”. This way, there aren’t going to be any orphaned tracepoints with partial information.

Step 2: Select “TCX” export format.

Step 3: Select “Use Existing Embedded Distance”. This is important, as it will pull the exact distance from your RunCline Device (which is oddly showing up as a Garmin Fenix 5S - Sapphire… Do you know what that Is? I looked up RunCline, and it is a phone app… but for some reason, they are using the product ID for this Garmin in their FIT file??). Note that with the cropping we did, the distance may not be PRECISELY the same as what you see on Runcline - because we may have chopped a few seconds off at the end and beginning….

Step 4: Select “Remove Duplicates”. This helps the tool “play nice” with Strava. In this situation, Strava is balking at having two points with the same time stamp (But different information). Normally, Strava doesn’t care about that, but in the case of laps, it does seem to care.

Step 5: Select “Send to Strava” if you want to send directly to Strava.

Step 6: (do this last): Check ONLY Laps for the Forerunner 935. Select ONLY position for the KinoMap. Select Elevation, HeartRate, Cadence, Power, and Distance for the RunCline. Make sure Position is not selected. The reason you want to do this last is because my tool will auto-select distance for the Garmin and KinoMap if you make any other changes. The reason I have it auto-select Distance is because a person who isn’t paying attention may select “Use Existing Embedded Distance” …. but not remember to check the “distance” stream. I’m thinking about improving the tool so that if the user de-selects the distance checkbox, the tool will remember that action and not re-check the box. But for the time being, let’s just do it this way.

As you can see from my screen shot, we got the total activity and laps included in the final result.

Hope that works for you!!
