The elevation is not the same as my individual files

Hi, can you please assist? Strava does not accept elevation data from my Garmin Forerunner 735XT from a treadmill activity. The elevation data is displayed in 'Garmin Connect'. I have also tried combining the 'iFit' .tcx from my Nordic Track treadmill with the .tcx from 'Garmin Connect' .tcx but without success? Is it because the information is non-barometric? I use a 'North Pole Engineering' 'Runn Treadmill Sensor' on my Nordic Track treadmill.

Yes, Strava will re-calculate the elevation unless it comes from what Strava deems to be a “barometric device.” If you want the elevation that is shown on your device to be the elevation reported by Strava, you need to choose “TCX” for the export format. Then, you need to choose a device type that has a barometer. If you tell Strava it is an indoor workout or a treadmill, then Strava will also override the elevation data.

**UPDATE December 26, 2020**
You can now export as FIT file format, and in doing so, you can actually override the elevation to what you deem to be correct. Alternatively, you can check all of the cumulative ascent boxes in the streams to match the ascent that you think is correct.

It seems that Strava no longer "trusts" the elevation data in TCX or GPX files... so the best bet if you want to override total ascent is to export from GOTOES as a FIT file. Even if you export as FIT, you still need to select a barometric device as the GPS type to get this to work. Exporting as FIT is a feature for GOTOES donors only - but you're supporting a good cause if you decide to do that!

Here is a link to Strava's elevation policy.
