| Description: | Peter, Sylvia, Janet and I were inspired to seek out new put ins in the South Bay. I recently launched a San Francisco bay kayak and canoe launch sites index, and we were hoping to scope out some information for the site. We happened to time this trip perfectly - even at our very casual pace, we averaged 3.78 mph (which is pretty good for us. We managed to paddle from Ravenswood Point on the flood tide (which carried us into the slough... and we returned on the ebb which got us back just as easily. The scenery is okay, but you spend a fair amount of time close to hwy 84 and it's traffic. Bird watching is great in the slough; we saw many snowy egrets, and mallards. If you go, you will really need to check your tide tables. Access to the water may be difficult at lower tides (Especially near Ravenswood point). Jarvis lading seemed to be dredged, but you you'd probably want to make sure that you don't have to walk through mud to launch. No facilities at either landing. Heading under the Dumbarton Bridge can be interesting during windy conditions, and / or times when there is a strong tidal flow. |
